The science behind teamwork is The Belbin Model.

What makes a team truly work? Not just function—but thrive? Understanding and using the science behind teamwork is a vital tool in the toolbox for teams and leaders.

The world-renowned Belbin Model is the science behind teamwork.  Backed by decades of data and research, Belbin is a proven framework for understanding how individuals contribute to teams, and how those contributions shape performance.

Whether you're working in a corporate setting, government agency, defence force, nonprofit, small business, or educational institution, Belbin helps uncover the behavioural strengths people bring to the table. It’s about enabling individuals, leaders, and teams to work smarter, together.

A Research-Driven Approach to Teamwork

Born from pioneering big data research at Cambridge and Henley Management College Oxford by Dr Meredith Belbin, the Belbin Model goes far beyond personality tests. At its core are detailed individual and team reports, packed with insights and practical guidance. These tools offer a scientific lens through which to view and improve collaboration, communication, and performance at every level of an organisation.  They give actionable advice.

So, What Are Belbin Reports?

It all starts with the Self-Perception Inventory (SPI)—a questionnaire completed by the individual. This generates a 7-page personalised report outlining their unique mix of behavioural Belbin Team Roles, along with tailored advice on how they can make their best contribution in a team or workplace setting.

The insights deepen when feedback is gathered from colleagues—known as Observer Assessments. With input from at least four people who have worked closely with the individual, the report expands to 11 pages and offers a 360-degree perspective.

These individual reports can also be combined to generate Team Reports, offering practical recommendations on how team members interact and how to strengthen team dynamics.

Why Belbin?

Our purpose is simple: to help organisations build better, more effective teams. By providing practical, research-backed tools, Belbin gives teams a shared language for understanding and valuing each other's strengths—without conflict or confusion.

Strong teams don’t happen by accident.

Belbin helps you build them intentionally.

From individual profiles to full team diagnostics, online systems to facilitated workshops and accreditation, Belbin supports team and leadership development across all industries. It’s also a valuable asset in areas like recruitment, coaching, employee engagement, conflict resolution, and career development.

A Smarter Way to Work Together

When people understand how they work best—and how others do too—it changes everything. Belbin promotes stronger collaboration, improved communication, and ultimately, better business outcomes.

Because great teams start with great evidence-based insight.
